We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As Section Manager Warehouse your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
• Identify ways to support specific opportunities and risks related to safety, health, and sustainability, ensuring that all transactional Physical Supply Chain activities comply with safety, health, and environmental requirements.
General:
• Manage the effective implementation of the Supply Chain strategy within the Physical Supply Chain warehousing environment.
• Embrace an agile Supply Chain by being adaptive and flexible to accommodate and focus on emerging and changing business priorities.
Supply Chain Strategy, Critical Tasks, Targets:
• Provide input into the regional Warehousing strategy and translate it into critical tasks and performance targets.
• Manage warehouse practices to achieve optimal process and people efficiencies.
• Manage and schedule audits of the supply process (e.g., stock/cycle counting, safety reviews, etc.).
• Manage the budget associated with warehousing activities.
• Ensure that stock levels are optimised and align with business requirements.
• Ensures operational efficiency across sites.
• Inspects and monitors housekeeping practices at the stores.
• Manage and resolve Global Shared Services payment queries.
• Manage and escalate corrective measures on incidents of observed shrinkage or fraud.
• Support the roll-out of the Anglo-American Operating Model, via participation in site implementations and cross-site best practice sharing, to leverage tangible working capital benefits.
Sustainability and Social:
• Manage inventory optimisation to decrease wastage at the operations by holding the right amount of inventory, positively impacting Anglo American’s carbon footprint.
• Drive sustainable change through initiatives such as zero waste to landfill.
• Identify opportunities to encourage host community participation in the PSC network.
Commercial Value Delivery:
• Provide input and guidance to sourcing and purchasing teams on optimal fulfilment strategies for commodity classes , i.e., central versus decentralised, VMI, VOI, etc.
• Socialise and embed the culture of planning and fulfilment within areas such as purchasing, sourcing, end users, etc.
• Manage warehousing cost, maintenance and/or internal budgets.
• Provide input and guidance to sourcing and purchasing teams on optimal fulfilment strategies for commodity classes , such as centralised versus decentralised, VMI, VOI, etc.
• Ensure working capital reduction plans and targets are met.
• Collaborate with regional commercial teams to deliver and embed inventory optimisation opportunities and provide leadership to identify and address issues impacting operational performance, including OTIF.
Relationship Management:
• Manage the integration with Operational Excellence, Logistics Development, and Materials Planning to increase performance and identify improvement areas.
• Collaborate with BU management teams to ensure alignment of operational requirements with warehousing activities.
• Manage the implementation of opportunities and plans to deliver on business sustainability commitments.
• Manage and maintain relationships with local and group functions to drive change.
• Manage relationships with local employee bargaining and/or representative councils to drive operational improvement.
People and Teams:
• Develop and mentor the team to ensure that agreed service levels are maintained, and service excellence is met.
• Embrace a Supply Chain team culture of diversity and inclusiveness.
• Collaborate with the CoE to develop and implement a regional Physical Supply Chain people capability framework and development plan, and be responsible for implementing the plan in the region.
• Support cross-functional team interactions with internal stakeholders to execute warehousing activities.
• Ensure relevant key performance areas are understood, agreed to and embedded as part of the Team+ culture.
• Build team capabilities that will enable resilient and agile competencies, aiming to future-proof Physical Supply Chain efficiency.
• Ensure adherence to performance standards / KPIs at the stores and institute corrective action where necessary.
Governance and Compliance:
• Ensure personal and team compliance with relevant external and internal Anglo American and Supply Chain Governance requirements about all Physical Supply Chain Management activities.
• Ensure personal and team compliance with applicable legislative requirements about all Physical Supply Chain Management activities in set portfolio.
This role is in Supply Chain NC department on a Band 6 (D-Upper) level reporting to the Supply Chain Operations Manager.
Qualifications
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF7.
• A postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF8
• SA Drivers Licence: Code B (Light vehicle)
Technical Knowledge
• 6-8 years of experience in Supply Chain management and interdependencies within a regional context (category management, sourcing and contracts, purchasing, physical supply chain and linkages to other functions) with specialist knowledge of warehousing, logistics and inventory management.
• Safety standards, management systems, culture within warehousing and logistics, and safe storage, preservation, and maintenance of in-storage products and equipment.
• Knowledge of how to embed a more sustainable PSC (circular economy, carbon & water footprint reduction, inclusive procurement, doing business with responsible suppliers, etc.).
• PSC digitalisation and data analytics opportunities, continuous improvement and optimisation.
• Operational experience in facilities management, transportation management, or a related field.
• Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role, overseeing facilities and transportation operations.
• Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, standards, and best practices related to facilities management and transportation
