About the role
Protea Hotels by Marriott is hiring a Sous Chef for the Protea Hotel Pretoria Loftus Park. The role is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, maintaining high culinary standards, and ensuring excellent guest experiences. The successful candidate will lead kitchen staff, maintain food quality and safety standards, support employee development, and assist the Executive Chef in managing overall kitchen performance. Key Responsibilities Kitchen Leadership Supervise daily kitchen operations and lead culinary teams Coordinate staff involved in food preparation Promote teamwork and maintain a positive work environment Culinary Standards: Ensure food quality, presentation, and consistency Maintain proper food safety and sanitation standards Assist with menu development and culinary innovation Manage food storage, purchasing, and preparation processes Guest Experience: Deliver excellent guest dining experiences Train staff to meet high customer service standards Monitor service quality and provide feedback to employees Operational Management: Achieve kitchen performance and budget targets Train employees on safety and operational procedures Assist with staffing, scheduling, and payroll administration
Requirements
- Education & Experience (Option 1)
- High school diploma
- Minimum 8 years experience in culinary or food service
- Supervisory experience managing 15+ team members
- Education & Experience (Option 2)
- Diploma or Degree in Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management
- Minimum 4 years relevant experience
- Supervisory experience managing 15+ team members
